Liposuction is a procedure designed to re-shape the male or female body by removing pockets of fat from the body.

Genetically we inherit our parents’ characteristics. While fat cells change size as we gain or lose weight, their numbers don’t change. Liposuction removes unwanted fatty deposits by suction. The incisions used are very small and easily concealed. This procedure directly targets the problem areas by reducing the number of fat cells in that area. This change in body proportion is permanent, even with subsequent weight gain.

Virtually any area of fat accumulation can be treated with Liposuction. In men, these include the abdomen, ‘love handles’ above the hips and the breast area. Women most commonly wish to remove ‘saddlebags’ from their outer thighs, but treatment of the tummy, buttocks, inner thighs, knees and hips are commonly performed.

The ideal candidate for Liposuction is close to their ideal weight. It should be emphasized that Liposuction is not a good substitute for weight loss by proper diet and exercise. It is intended for changing body shape where fat deposits are unable to be shifted by conventional methods. A patient must also be in good medical condition to heal and resist infection.

Liposuction takes place under general anesthetic in a fully accredited hospital, with the assistance of a consultant anesthetist. Generally an overnight hospital stay is required although you may choose day surgery. Recovery depends on the individual patient and you would be advised in detail prior to the procedure.

As part of the recovery you may experience swelling and bruising for several weeks as well as over or under sensitive skin.
