Medical Skin Needling (Dermaroller)
Medical Skin Needling or Dermaroller® Therapy is especially effective in helping the skin repair itself and improving areas affected by severe acne scars, age and sun damage, wrinkles on the face and cleavage, and stretch marks.
Dermaroller® technology can reduce signs of aging through advanced medical skin needling to give you a healthy, vibrant appearance. The cylindrical medical device functions by formulating columns of tiny needles in the skin to facilitate the growth of skin cells. Then, new capillaries and layers of collagen and elastin are produced to accelerate blood supply and give the skin a more youthful and smooth texture. This process is called Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT), working to help your skin replenish itself.
Medical skin needling typically begins with three treatments that are spaced out between six and eight weeks. Dr. Merten recommends three to five treatments in order to achieve long-lasting results. The Dermaroller® can give you tighter, smoother and healthier skin that can help you feel more confident in the way you look.
More Information About Medical Skin Needling:
What is similar about wrinkles, scars, uneven skin and stretch marks?
All of these conditions occur because of a lack of collagen. Medical Skin Needling helps to stimulate collagen production and reduce the appearance of these skin conditions.
What exactly is the Dermaroller®?
The Dermaroller® is a medical handheld instrument containing approximately 192 micro-needles to rejuvenate your skin. The product works by opening up the pores on the surface of your skin and cleaning out any impurities. The Dermaroller® is approved by the TGA.
The Medical Skin Needling procedure is considered a less invasive alternative to procedures such as chemical peels and laser treatments, and is often less expensive as well.
What are the different steps of the procedure?
To begin the procedure, Dr. Merten will apply the Dermaroller ® over the surface of your skin, creating microscopic punctures within your pores. These punctures help stimulate collagen and elastin production, therefore making it easier for your skin to absorb creams or lotions. Your pores will close back up again in about an hour after treatment.
The Dermaroller® can be used on most skin types and even on sensitive facial areas such as your neck and around your eyes.
What is Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT)?
Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT) with Dermaroller® works by helping your body produce more collagen and cells for a more youthful appearance. The results from this treatment are gradual, but long-lasting.
What is Scar Reduction Therapy (SRT)?
Scar Reduction Therapy (SRT) with Dermaroller® helps your body release old scar tissue occurring deep within the skin. This tissue is what causes the visibility of scars on the surface of your skin, and the SRT procedure targets tissue deep within the skin to make scars less noticeable.
How many treatments are needed for the Dermaroller® procedure?
The amount of Dermaroller® treatments needed varies from patient to patient. Dr. Merten will thoroughly examine and assess your skin to determine an appropriate amount of Dermaroller® treatment sessions.
What are some of the benefits of the Dermaroller®?
Medical Skin Needling with the Dermaroller® can work wonders for your skin. Some of the benefits of the treatment include:
- Stimulation of collagen and elastin
- Comprehensive facial rejuvenation
- Reduction of general and acne scars
- Reduction of fine lines and wrinkles
- Reversal of skin dryness
