Dr Steve Merten of Pure Aesthetics provides an overview of what the facelift process entails from consultation through recovery.

Sydney, NSW – Dr Steve Merten, a plastic surgeon in Sydney, emphasises the potential of facelift surgery, saying the procedure can provide the natural- and youthful-looking results that so many people seek. When he meets with patients interested in a facelift, Dr Merten does his best to thoroughly educate them on what they can expect to happen throughout the entire process so they can make a fully informed decision about their care.

One of the most crucial steps of the facelift process, says the Sydney surgeon, is the initial consultation process. He says this is when he can truly determine if someone is a good candidate for facelift surgery, if additional procedures should be performed to achieve optimal results, or if an alternative procedure is more beneficial for reaching their goals. During each consultation, Dr Merten will recommend a specific technique for the surgery, based on the patient’s needs and goals, as well as communicate potential risks associated with the surgery. By doing so, he says the patient can fully understand the pros and cons of undergoing the procedure.

The downtime following facelift surgery will vary depending on the extent of the procedure. For a general understanding of what patients may encounter post-operatively, the surgeon explains that swelling is normal for the first few weeks, and any pain or discomfort can typically be managed with oral pain medication. Dr Merten notes that most patients feel comfortable enough to return to work after two weeks, as much of the swelling and bruising will have faded. While it can take awhile for patients to completely heal, he says patients can begin to see their final results at about three months into their facelift recovery.

Dr Merten recommends anyone interested in facelift surgery to schedule a consultation with a fully qualified plastic surgeon who is experienced with the procedure. By doing so, he says they can ensure they are receiving high quality care and achieve the best results possible.
